A Bit of Gore

In case there are too many cute pics on my blog, here's a bit of gore to add some balance.  While organizing some photos on my hard drive, I came across these ones from an incident that took place during one of my blogging breaks.

One late evening last December, just a couple weeks before giving birth to Ronin, Colby and I would be found having a silent argument in our kitchen.  It consisted of him becoming increasingly irritated at the fact that I had avoided grocery shopping for approximately a month and was messing around on my computer instead of making dinner for him.  (I had been filling my big, fat pregnant self with snacks constantly throughout the day, so I wasn't hungry.)  His anger crescendoed with slamming cabinets, etcetera when everything he went for was either empty or had gone bad.  Realizing he just might starve if I don't step in, I closed my laptop to throw some pasta together for him.

I don't recall handling the knife in an angry manner while trying to cut through the frozen sausage, but I could be mistaken.  I just remember putting my weight into it while holding the handle in one hand and pushing down on the blade with the other when it slipped out of my greasy grip and off the counter.  It felt like a blunt hit on the top of my bare foot, so I thought it was the handle that had hit, until I looked down and saw the white meatiness where a drip of blood formed and slowly began to drip down to my toes.  Colby rushed to my rescue when hearing the obscenity of obscenities yelled from my mouth, which I don't even remember.  He sat me down, cleaned it up and got me to the ER where we spent hours in the waiting room hungry and apologetic.  I ended up chickening out of the stitches that the doctor suggested (ironic, I know, after three unmedicated births) and went home with steri-stitches -a bandage that unsuccessfully held the wound closed.  On top of the reopening of the cut, I think I did some nerve damage too because I still have a numb area from the cut to my big toe.

And the Legacy Goes On...

This morning Colby, Ronin and I all went into Reid room to wake him up together.  Since we had the camera rolling, I asked Reid if he wanted to say anything to his little brother.  At first it seemed like he was about to just walk away, as expected when there's a camera pointing at him.  Instead, he does his dad proud by beginning to pile each of his Star Wars guys on Ronin, one-by-one, naming them as he goes.

He Is Risen!

Reid took his Easter egg hunt very seriously.  You can see it in his expression below and in how he held his man-purse.

Ronin was a trooper when it came to his A-Christmas-Story-esque bunny outfit.

Although, the double attack from Grammy and Tia just may have been his breaking point.

Despite the pressure of following up last year's cake decorating, Colby did not disappoint with this year's "Little Bunny Foo Foo" theme.

And I know what you're wondering because we all were too...  Yes, that is Jesus and not the Zig-Zag guy, despite the striking resemblance.

Enter the Peter Potty

Colby recently informed me that I am a sucker for gadgets.  I became defensive, but quickly realized he was right.  I get sucked into every infomercial I come across.  I want almost every product featured on the show, "Pitchmen".  I own a lifetime supply of Hercules Hooks, as well as a pair of those of slippers with microfiber soles, so I can clean my floors as I go about my day (he made me take those back!).

Anyway, this "condition" became especially evident during Reid's potty-training phase.  (In my defense, I was very excited about this diaper-ditching phase, with which I'm sure any other parent can identify.)  After another delivery from Amazon.com, Colby confronted me, asking how many potties I had bought in total.  We counted six.  (Yes, six.)  I scrambled to justify each one: The first one was a standard potty chair -a basic PT necessity.  The second was a cushy potty seat that sat on the regular toilet seat to get Reid accustomed to using a regular toilet.  He couldn't get up on it on his own though.  Clearly, we needed the one with the ladder attached to it.  The next two were travel potties (the first one didn't have the toilet seat adapter option).  I then realized he wasn't exercising his born right to stand and go...

...Enter the Peter Potty:
(What?  We've got two boys!)  Ok, so I was pretty embarrassed, but I stand by this purchase.  It flushes and everything!  It even adjusts in height and has the option to bolt to the wall (an option Colby refused).  Nonetheless...  For the record, he did admit over time that it was pretty cool.  I think he wants an adult-sized one (eww... urinal cakes).
